Social Initiatives

Scratch Day

From 2015 to 2017 I was collaborating actively with Edukreativos, to create different activities at events such as Arduino Day. I also co-organized with them the mexican Scratch Day 2015 and 2016 in Xalapa, Veracruz, where I shared several talks and workshops.

Code Club Growth Leader

As part of my role as Program Director in Jacaranda Education, I work as a “Growth Leader” in Mexico, helping volunteers, schools and students to organize Code Clubs. I hold regular meet-up (online and physical) to teach how to set up a Code Club and teach the first scratch module. By today I have held 10 meetups and registered more than 15 code clubs.

Mentes Ambulantes- A STEAM Roadtrip

After building the first 5 makerspaces in privates schools with Hacedores, my girlfriend and I decided that it was time to take maker education and sustainability projects to communities in the Maya region from Southern Mexico and Northern Guatemala. Our project was also hosted in 2 Fablabs, Fablab Yucatán and Fablab Maya. We launched the crowfunding campaign to do a teaching tour across 9 communities .In total we visited more than 9 communities and hosted workshops with more than 120 kids.

Regeneractiv

My first approach to maker and DIY-Culture started in Germany, with the project Regeneractiv. The idea was simple: Get together 10 Greenpeace energy activist to collaborate with 10 makers at the local makerspace “Dingfabrik” and build together machines using recycled materials, that could generate electricity. During this project we created several tutorials and also hosted a 3 day Workshop, where we screened environmental related documentaries using energy generated by riding bicycle generators. Back in Mexico we got the opportunity to do some workshops at the Computer Club House Faro de Oriente:
